We’ve all been in this situation. You show up to work and your boss hands you 3 painstakingly time-consuming projects that all have to be somehow finished by tomorrow. There is nothing quite as stressful as facing a tight deadline at work. It can feel impossible to know how to deal with the stress of tight deadlines in a healthy way, and no unfortunately, snacking nervously does not count as dealing.

Lately I've gotten a lot of private messages and questions about how I started my biz, speaking, etc and I think I've narrowed it down to these 3 things. I don't have all the answers, but I figured sharing some of these may help someone out there. Do you have any guiding advice for folks looking for a new business or career change?

With stress running high, a huge amount of events in a short time period, and exhaustion creeping in, it’s easy to focus on the client and flash a smile in front of them. Behind the scenes though, we let our guard down and treat our teams and vendor friends with less patience, trust, and care, turning into stressed out versions of ourselves we don’t enjoy being.

The world doesn’t need anymore copies – it needs you, with your wild ideas and intuition guiding you. Don’t pay attention to what everyone else is doing – there’s no formula for great design. Rule breakers and trendsetters are 2 names for the same people, so go on with your creative self and leave the comparison game in the dust.

Today, I board a plane for New Orleans for my first talk of 2018 and my 25th talk of my career - a career in public speaking that I always dreamed of but was too scared to admit was what I wanted to do, fearful of the critics who would roll their eyes and say it wasn't a "real job". They can pound sand, I don't care and I know different than them.

I liked that she focuses on helping women in creative fields. I emailed her immediately. We met. We clicked. I signed on for a month of intensive sales coaching. Since then, my confidence has grown in every way and so has my business. 

As I write this, I'm sitting on my new couch, with the dog curled up by my Christmas tree, Yule Log on TV, Christmas music through the stereo. I'm between writing content for my website and finalizing a speaking gig in Boston in the summer. Oh, how times have changed.
